Approach and anchoring

Port Jefferson Harbour cuts deep into the Long Island shore and is sheltered from winds between north and south through east and west, with a mud bottom giving good holding. Call the launch on VHF 68 for a mooring assignment and a ride ashore, usually within ten to fifteen minutes.

Practical

Eighteen moorings, reserved through Dockwa, with sizes for a wide range of vessels. The harbourmaster building has showers, washers and dryers. A water taxi runs across the harbour and delivers ice, fuel and takeaway food to boats. Port Jefferson Marina is 0.1 mile away and the yacht club 0.2 mile.

Ashore

The launch lands in central Port Jefferson, where shops, restaurants and the Long Island Rail Road station are within a short walk. The Bridgeport and Port Jefferson car ferry crosses Long Island Sound from the village waterfront.
