Approach and anchoring
The approach starts at the red and white Morse A buoy PJ, about three miles northwest of the breakwatered harbour entrance. Head southeast to pick up flashing green buoy 1 and flashing red bell buoy 2, keeping clear of the shoals on each side. The west breakwater carries a flashing red light. Dockmaster on VHF channel 68.
Practical
Transient moorings and berths for visiting cruisers, with slip space up to 90 feet. Visitors have use of moorings, showers, ice, clubhouse barbecue grills and the Tell-Tales bar. The club runs sailing instruction for children and adults. Port Jefferson village is a short walk away with shops and restaurants.
History
The club traces back to 1959, founded as the Setauket Yacht Club to serve the sailing community alongside the power-boat club of the day. Port Jefferson was a leading shipbuilding centre in the mid-1800s, producing more than a third of Suffolk County's output.
