Guide
Approach and anchoring
Sand bottom with patches of Posidonia seagrass, protected and now regulated. Use the ZMEL mooring buoys where installed rather than dropping the anchor on the seagrass. Sheltered from NW, W and SW, exposed to the E where the mistral funnels round the peninsula and builds short chop. VHF 9 for the nearby Hyères harbours.
Practical
No services on site. Port de La Capte at 1.1 NM N and Port Auguier at 1.2 NM S both provide water, diesel and shops. The town of Hyères and its shuttle bus stops are within 2 km by road from La Capte.
Ashore
The double tombolo of Giens, one of only two in Europe of this scale, links the peninsula to the mainland by two sand bars separated by the salt marshes of the Vieux Salins. Plage de la Capte is a long sand beach on the east side of the tombolo. Salt marsh nature reserve with pink flamingos between the two sand bars.
