Approach and anchoring

Approach from the south between Le Croisic and Le Pouliguen. Sand bottom, holding good. Open to the west and north-west; only usable in settled weather or with wind from the eastern sector. Strong tidal streams run through the Traict entrance on the flood and ebb, with a reversal at slack water. VHF 9 for Le Croisic harbour.

Practical

Landing at Le Croisic 1.6 NM south in the fishing and marina basin, which dries at low water on the outer berths. Chandlery, water and diesel in the inner harbour. All shops and rail station in the town.

Ashore

Fish auction of Le Croisic 1.5 NM south, one of the main landing points for sole and langoustine on the Atlantic coast. Salt marshes of Guérande 3 km inland, classified Natura 2000 wetland. Coastal path GR 34 around the Pointe du Croisic with views over the Plateau du Four.

History

Le Croisic grew from the medieval salt trade of the Guérande peninsula. The fishing port has been active since the 15th century and remains a main landing for Atlantic langoustine.
