Guide

Approach and anchoring

Approach from offshore with the Le Croisic leading line. The approaches to Le Croisic include several drying rocks and strong tidal streams across the Traict du Croisic entrance, up to 2 knots on springs. Sand bottom with good holding. Open to the eastern sector, with shelter from NW through W to S.

Practical

No services on the anchorage. Port du Croisic and the criée fishing harbour are 0.5 to 0.6 NM to the SE, with fuel, water and a full chandlery. Shops, restaurants and market in the town centre a short walk from the quays.

Ashore

Le Croisic old town has a 15th-century church, the Hôtel d'Aiguillon, and the Océarium aquarium at 600 m. The GR 34 coastal path runs west along the granite cliffs of the Côte Sauvage toward Pointe du Croisic and Batz-sur-Mer, with its salt marshes of Guérande at 4 km.

History

Le Croisic was a major port for cod fishing off Newfoundland from the 16th century and for the salt trade from the Guérande marshes. The criée was one of the first fish auction halls built in France, dating from 1929.
