Approach and anchoring

Approach from the open Atlantic south of the island. The south coast of Groix is a line of cliffs cut by narrow inlets, with outlying rocks. Navigate by chart and keep well offshore until the cove is identified. The seabed is rock and kelp, no sand patches of size, use with care.

Practical

Anchor in 4 to 6 metres at low water on rock and weed. Holding is poor, stay aboard and keep an anchor watch. Shelter from N, NE and E winds, exposed to S and SW Atlantic swell. This is a day stop only. For the night, move to Port de Saint-Gildas on the north coast, 1.1 nm E, or back round to Port-Tudy.

Ashore

Landing by tender is possible in calm weather only, the cove has no beach and ends in low rocks. The GR 34 coastal path runs along the clifftops above. The area belongs to the Réserve naturelle François Le Bail, which protects the geology of Groix, the mineralogical site of Pen Men is further west.
