Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach through the Golfe du Morbihan requires attention to the strong tidal streams, which run up to 8 knots at the mouth near Port-Navalo on springs. The bottom here is rock, so holding is uncertain. Better to pick up a mooring buoy where available rather than anchor on ledges.
Practical
No services at Port Neuf itself. Port de l'Argol on the east side of the island is 0.5 nautical miles E, Port de la Croix 0.8 nautical miles SE. Both have seasonal pontoons managed by the Commune de l'Île-d'Arz. Shops and the passenger ferry link to Vannes and Conleau are in the village.
Ashore
Coastal footpath loops the whole island, about 17 km, passing the 11th-century priory church of Notre-Dame-de-l'Île and the restored tide mill of Berno on the SE shore. Ferry to Vannes takes around 30 minutes from the main pier.
