Approach and anchoring

Approach from the Coureau de Groix, the channel between the island and the mainland. No hazards on direct approach from the north, keep clear of the rocky cliffs on either side of the cove. The Île de Groix is ringed by drying rocks, navigate by chart and the cardinal marks of the Coureau.

Practical

Anchor on sand in 3 to 5 metres at low water. Shelter from SW, S and SE winds, exposed to N and NE. In northerly weather fall back to Port de Saint-Gildas, 1.4 nm E on the north coast, which is the main visitor harbour of the island. Port de l'Argol, 5.7 nm SE, on the south coast, is a daytime anchorage only.

Ashore

Landing by tender on the beach. The coastal path GR 34 of the Île de Groix passes above the cove and runs the full 25 km circumference of the island. The village of Locmaria is about 2 km inland. Main shops and ferry terminal at Port-Tudy, the island's capital, about 4 km east.
