Anchorage off the waterfront of Port Townsend, on the northeast corner of the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State, at the entrance to Admiralty Inlet.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
The anchorage lies open to the south across a wide bay, with mixed weed and mud on the bottom and a poor reputation for holding. Strong southerly winds put a boat on a lee shore, so it suits a settled-weather stop rather than a long stay.
Practical
Port Townsend Boat Haven is 0.5 mile west, a full-service marina with showers, laundry, a launch ramp and travel lifts. The City Pier is 0.5 mile northeast. The town centre, with shops and provisions, fronts the waterfront.
History
Port Townsend grew into a busy seaport in the late 19th century, and its centre keeps a large stock of ornate Victorian buildings. It is one of three towns in the United States listed as a Victorian seaport.
