Guide
Approach and anchoring
Coupeville Wharf reaches into Penn Cove and is the only public pier in the cove for overnight stays. The float runs about 200 feet and holds ten to twelve average boats, with four mooring buoys nearby. There is anchorage on either side of the wharf when it is full. Showers are available, but no shore power or water at the float or buoys.
Practical
The wharf has a fuel berth, guest moorage and showers, plus a cafe, gift shop and kayak hire. Fresh water is piped to the wharf head. The town centre of Coupeville stands directly at the foot of the pier with shops and provisions within a short walk.
Ashore
Coupeville is one of the oldest towns in Washington, set within Ebey's Landing National Historical Reserve. Front Street, alongside the wharf, keeps a row of nineteenth-century false-front buildings. The big red wharf building dates from 1905 and was raised to ship locally grown grain.
History
Local merchants and farmers built the original 500-foot wharf at the foot of Alexander Street in 1905 to handle the area's growing grain trade. The landmark red shed at its end is still known as the Grain Wharf.
