Approach and anchoring

Approach across the Ubaye arm of the lake. Water level drops through autumn as the reservoir is drawn down for the Durance irrigation: check depths along the quays late in the season. VHF 14. Sheltered from the western mistral by the Morgon ridge, more exposed to easterlies coming down the Ubaye valley.

Practical

87 berths, slipway, capitainerie, water and power on the pontoons. Restaurant on site in season. No fuel berth: nearest at Port Saint-Pierre 1.7 NM west. Village of Saint-Vincent-les-Forts up on the ridge, about 4 km by road, with a small shop.

Ashore

Climb to the Fort de Saint-Vincent at 1 290 m above the lake, part of Vauban's defensive line on the Ubaye, about 4 km from the port. Paragliding take-off sites on the Morgon side. Demoiselles coiffees of Pontis are a short drive on the north shore road.

History

The village gives its name to the seventeenth century fort built on the strategic pass between the Ubaye valley and the Durance. The old lower village was partly flooded when the lake was filled in 1961. The port itself was developed for lake sailing once water sports took over from the lost farmland.
