Approach and anchoring
Access by the northern arm of the lake, the bay of the Ubaye. Water level varies by several metres across the season as the reservoir is drawn down for hydroelectric production. VHF 14.
Practical
50 berths on pontoons. Fuel station at the port. Port de Saint-Vincent-les-Forts 1.7 NM east and Port de Bois Vieux 2.1 NM west for additional moorings on the Ubaye arm.
Ashore
Fort de Saint-Vincent-les-Forts on a ridge above the lake, part of the Vauban fortified line across the Ubaye valley. Hiking trails around the Ubaye arm of the lake. Village of Le Sauze-du-Lac on the cliff to the south.
History
The lac de Serre-Ponçon was created in 1961 by the Serre-Ponçon dam on the Durance, then the largest earth dam in Europe. It flooded several villages of the Ubaye and upper Durance valleys and now covers 28 km².
