Approach and anchoring

Freshwater lake at roughly 780 m altitude, water level varies by several metres between spring and autumn depending on EDF release schedule. Sand holding inshore. Mountain thermal winds, Mistral blows strongly from the NW down the Durance valley in the afternoon. 40 moorings laid by the local base.

Practical

Port d'Eygoires adjacent on the east shore with slipway. Port du Barnafret 0.6 nm east. Shops at Savines-le-Lac across the bay, about 3 km by road.

Ashore

Chapelle Saint-Michel stands on a rocky island in the middle of the lake, the only remnant above water of the village of Ubaye-Savines flooded when the dam was filled in 1961. Route des Crêtes climbs above the lake with viewpoints on the Écrins massif.
