Guide

Approach and anchoring

Reservoir lake with a water level that drops several metres from autumn to spring. Approach in the bay of Chanteloube, marked channel, no tide and no commercial traffic. Harbour on VHF 14.

Practical

64 berths for small motor craft and trailer sailers. Slipway, water and electricity on the pontoons, sanitary block. No fuel berth on site. Chorges village at 4 km with supermarket, boulangerie and railway station on the Marseille to Briancon line.

Ashore

Chapel of Saint-Michel standing on its islet, 1 km east of the harbour, reached on foot when the lake level is low. Via ferrata de la Falaise des Hermes at 3 km. Route des Demoiselles Coiffees with its hoodoo columns at 12 km on the south shore near Theus.

History

Lake Serre-Ponçon was created in 1961 by damming the Durance river to regulate floods and generate hydroelectricity. The former village of Savines and part of Ubaye valley were submerged, and the chapel of Saint-Michel remains as the visible marker of the old valley floor.
