Small harbour on the north tip of the Médoc peninsula at Le Verdon-sur-Mer, on the left bank of the Gironde estuary mouth.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Entrance from the Gironde main channel, north of the ferry terminal linking Le Verdon to Royan. Strong tidal streams run across the estuary mouth, up to 3 knots on springs. Shallow basin with around 0.8 m at low water, plan arrival near high water for deeper keels. Watch for the Royan-Le Verdon ferry traffic.
Practical
Mainly used by the local sailing club and small craft. Few visitor places. Water and fuel are easier to find at Port Médoc, 0.6 NM south.
Ashore
Pointe de Grave and its lighthouse sit 1 km north, with views across the estuary to Royan. Phare de Cordouan, the oldest working lighthouse in France, is visible 4 NM offshore. Soulac-sur-Mer and the Atlantic beaches of the Médoc coast lie 10 km south.
