Approach and anchoring
Entry via the Passe de l'Ouest of the Gironde, well-buoyed but exposed to Atlantic swell. Strong tidal streams in the estuary, up to 3 knots on springs. Sand bottom, holding fair. Shelter from NW, W, SW and S winds; open to the north and east where the estuary fetch builds quickly.
Practical
No services at the anchorage. Port Médoc marina 0.5 NM to the NW for berths, water, diesel and shore facilities. Port Bloc ferry harbour 1.1 NM to the NW, useful as a refuge but primarily a commercial terminal for the Royan ferry.
