Approach and anchoring
Enter the Rade de Lorient through the Passe de l'Ouest, then follow the buoyed channel along the Gâvres shore. Rock bottom, holding uncertain, check the set before leaving the boat. Shelter from E and SE, open to the prevailing W winds funnelling through the rade.

Water point ashore. Ban-Gâvres slipway and moorings 0.6 NM NE, Toulhars pontoons 1.1 NM NW for a full stop.

Plage de Porh Puns on the Atlantic side of the peninsula, 300 m across the isthmus. GR 34 coastal path passes through Gâvres village. Fort de Port-Louis and the Musée de la Compagnie des Indes 2 NM N by road or dinghy.
