Small cove on the west side of the Gâvres peninsula, in the Lorient roadstead, southern Brittany.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Enter from the Courreaux de Groix, then head into the inner roadstead past the Port-Louis citadel. Hold the buoyed channel and keep clear of the Bastresses shoals west of Gâvres. Bottom of sand with patches of algae so check the anchor has bitten. Shelter from NE through SE only; exposed to west and south-west swell pushed in from the roadstead.
Practical
No mooring buoys and no services in the cove itself. Tender landing on the beach at Goërem. Shops, bakery and restaurants in Gâvres village 300 m inland. Water and diesel at Port-Louis marina 0.9 NM north.
Ashore
Walk the coastal path GR 34 from Goërem beach along the peninsula to the Fort de Penthièvre site. Citadelle de Port-Louis and its Musée de la Compagnie des Indes are reachable by the small passenger ferry from Locmalo to Port-Louis. Grande Plage de Gâvres 400 m south across the dune.
