Approach and anchoring
Approach from the Passage de la Citadelle between Port-Louis and Gâvres. The entrance faces north into the harbour, marked by perches. Maximum draught 2 m. VHF 9. Tidal stream runs strongly across the entrance, prefer slack water.
Practical
5 visitor berths alongside, mainly a fishing and local mooring harbour. Water on the quay. No fuel, no shower block. Bakery and a small grocery in Gâvres village at 200 m. A few seafood restaurants along the quay.
Ashore
Sentier côtier around the Gâvres peninsula, 12 km loop along the Atlantic dune coast of the Natura 2000 Gâvres-Quiberon site. Plage de Goerem at 400 m on the ocean side. Port-Louis citadel reachable by the passenger ferry from Port-Louis at 0.6 NM.
History
Gâvres was an artillery testing range of the French Navy from 1829, and the peninsula still holds a restricted military zone on its western tip.
