Freshwater pontoon on the Canal des Landes at La Teste-de-Buch, linking the Arcachon basin to Lac de Cazaux-Sanguinet.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
The canal runs inland from the southern shore of the Arcachon basin to Lac de Cazaux, roughly 6 km long. It is navigable only by shallow-draught craft and tenders because of a low road bridge and limited depth. No tidal gate: the canal level follows the lake.
Practical
Short public pontoon for day stops. No fuel, no shoreside services at the quay itself. La Teste-de-Buch town centre and its shops, bakeries and supermarkets are within walking distance.
Ashore
La Teste-de-Buch market hall at about 800 m, open daily in season. Dune du Pilat, the largest sand dune in Europe at 106 m high, is about 8 km south by road. Cycle path along the canal leads to the beaches of Lac de Cazaux in roughly 6 km.
