Sand anchorage on the west shore of Lac de Cazaux et de Sanguinet, the second largest natural lake in mainland France, in the Landes de Gascogne.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the middle of the lake on a west heading. Sand bottom, open to winds from the west and south-west which lift a short chop across the lake. Draught limited by the sandy shallows near the shore.
Practical
No services on site. The nearest equipped port is Port Maguide on the east shore at Biscarrosse, 0.8 nm south, with pontoons, fuel and the Biscarrosse sailing base. La Paillote lies 2.5 nm to the south-east.
Ashore
The beach sits at the edge of the Landes forest, on the western shore of the lake opposite Biscarrosse. Forest cycle paths and lakeside trails cross the area.
History
The lake was used from 1930 to 1939 by the seaplane base of the Latécoère and Air France Transatlantique lines, which tested the Laté 521 Lieutenant de Vaisseau Paris and the Laté 631 four-engine flying boats from Hourtiquets on the south shore.
