Approach and anchoring
Mud bottom with good holding. Sheltered from NW, W and SW, open to the E and SE where the Mistral-driven chop builds on the lagoon. Enclosed brackish water, no tide, depth 6 to 9 metres. Entry to the Étang via the Canal de Caronte at Martigues, air draught limited by the motorway bridge at 17 metres clearance. Saint-Chamas port 1.1 NM NE, Istres-Les Heures Claires 2.1 NM S.
Practical
No services at anchor. Water, electricity and small chandlery at Saint-Chamas port.
Ashore
Poudrerie royale de Saint-Chamas, former gunpowder works turned into a 130-hectare départemental park, entrance 1.2 km from the village quay. Roman bridge Pont Flavien with its two triumphal arches at the entrance of Saint-Chamas, 1.5 km from the port.
