Guide
Approach and anchoring
Sheltered from the north-east through south, exposed from the west. Holding is on a sand bottom. The bays around Thompson's Point are wide and shallow, so favour deeper water away from the shore.
Practical
No facilities at the anchorage. Essex Marina lies 4.3 NM to the south-west across the lake on the New York shore, and Point Bay Marina 4.9 NM south, the latter with a fuel dock, water, shore power and a 35-ton travel lift.
Ashore
Thompson's Point is a wooded peninsula of about 230 acres owned by the town of Charlotte, with dolomite cliffs and a limestone bluff cedar-pine forest. The Charlotte to Essex car ferry crosses the lake nearby.
