Anchorage on the northern shore of the Étang de Berre, off the Le Jaï spit between Marignane and Châteauneuf-les-Martigues.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Shallow brackish lagoon, draught typically under 2 metres near the shore. Approach from the main Berre basin, keeping clear of the Marignane airport seaplane zone to the east. Mud bottom, good holding once set. Exposed to the mistral from NW, which funnels down the lagoon and raises a short steep chop.
Practical
No facilities at the anchorage. Port de Marignane lies 1.4 nm NE for shelter, fuel and water. Horizon Marine is 2.6 nm SW. Town centre of Marignane reachable by road for shops and rail link to Marseille.
Ashore
Le Jaï beach runs along the sand and pine spit, 2 km of open lagoon shoreline used by kite and wind surfers. Coastal path along the Canal du Rove embankment. Marignane town centre and Château des Covet at roughly 2 km from the northern shore.
