Approach and anchoring
Entry through the Canal de Caronte linking the Gulf of Fos to the étang de Berre. From Caronte, follow the north shore east for 4 nm to La Mède. Mistral blows hard from the north-west across the étang and raises a short steep chop. Horizon Marine at 0.1 nm south, CNM Martigues at 2.5 nm west.
Practical
72 to 78 berths on the Gérard-Poret nautical base, open year round to members. Club active April to November, Tuesday to Sunday. Water skiing, wakeboard, sailing, kayak and paddle sections. Restaurant La Plancha on site. Village shops in La Mède at 300 m.
Ashore
Chaîne de l'Estaque to the south, with the massif de la Nerthe and its coastal walking paths down to the calanques de Niolon and Méjean on the Côte Bleue. Martigues old town at 5 km west, known for its Pont San Sébastien and the Miroir aux Oiseaux quarter painted by Ziem and Dufy.
History
The club was founded in 1982. The étang de Berre itself, 155 km², is the largest saltwater lagoon of the French Mediterranean coast and was heavily polluted by the Shell refinery at La Mède until clean-up programmes from the 1990s onwards.
