Anchorage off the small island of Lémenez in the Bay of Paimpol, between Loguivy-de-la-Mer and the Bréhat archipelago.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Mud bottom. Shelter only from NE. Fully open to all other quadrants, avoid if wind rotates. Approach at half tide and above, the bay dries extensively at low water. Numerous unmarked rocks between Lémenez and the mainland, use SHOM chart 7127.
Practical
No services. Tender ashore to Port Lazo at 0.8 nautical miles south for basic supplies, or to Loguivy-de-la-Mer for a wider choice. Paimpol lock harbour at 3.5 nautical miles west for full provisioning and repairs.
Ashore
GR 34 coastal path along the Paimpol shoreline, links Port Lazo to the Arcouest ferry pier for Bréhat at 4 km north. Oyster parks visible at low water in the bay.
History
The Bay of Paimpol was the base of the Icelandic fishing fleet from 1852 to 1935. Up to 80 schooners sailed from Paimpol each February for cod campaigns off Iceland, a chapter recorded in Pierre Loti's 1886 novel Pêcheur d'Islande.
