Approach and anchoring

Approach through the Chenal de la Jument, buoyed and lit. The bay dries extensively at low water on large tides; anchoring limited to the deeper outer part. Sand bottom, holding good. Sheltered from the west and north-west, open to the eastern sector. Strong tidal streams around Île Saint-Riom.

Practical

Paimpol harbour 1.1 NM north-west has a lock giving access to the inner basin, opens around high water. Water, diesel, chandlery and visitor berths inside. Port Adhoc boatyard 1.3 NM north-west for lift-out and winter storage. All shops and a rail link to Guingamp in town.

Ashore

Abbey of Beauport 2 km south of Paimpol, 13th century Premonstratensian foundation on the shore, open to visitors. GR 34 coastal path runs from Paimpol to the Pointe de l'Arcouest, 6 km north, with ferry crossings to Île-de-Bréhat. Paimpol was the home port of the Iceland cod schooners until 1935, documented in the municipal museum.
