Approach and anchoring

Reached from Lorient harbour by sailing up the Blavet estuary past the Bonhomme channel. Marked channel to the town quay. Overhead clearance restricted by the Pont du Bonhomme downstream. Max draught 1.8 m at the pontoons. Call the harbourmaster on VHF 9 before arrival.

Practical

130 berths along pontoons on the right bank opposite the basilica. Water and electricity on the pontoons, fuel and yard services in Lorient. Town centre and shops within 300 m of the quay, train station on the Quimper to Paris line at 500 m.

Ashore

Basilique Notre-Dame-du-Paradis, 16th century flamboyant gothic, at 400 m from the pontoons. Haras National, the former royal stud farm founded in 1857, at 800 m. Medieval Porte Broerec gatehouse and town walls at 300 m. Weekly Thursday market on place Maréchal Foch.

History

Hennebont was a fortified medieval town that withstood the siege of 1342 led by Jeanne de Flandre during the War of the Breton Succession. The Porte Broerec is the surviving element of the 13th century enclosure.
