Approach and anchoring

Enter Lorient harbour by the marked channel between Port-Louis and the Île Saint-Michel. Port-Mané lies north of the ferry terminal, entrance marked by a breakwater. Maximum draught 3 m. VHF 9. Strong tidal stream in the Courreaux on the ebb.

Practical

150 berths on pontoons. Water and electricity. Fuel berth at Kernével across the harbour at 0.8 NM. Passenger ferry to Lorient centre from Sainte-Catherine at 0.6 NM, crossing about 7 minutes. Bakery and small grocery in Locmiquélic village at 500 m.

Ashore

Sentier côtier along the Anse de Pen Mané to the Pen Mané nature reserve at 400 m, a wetland of the Natura 2000 Rade de Lorient site with observation hide. Cité de la Voile Éric Tabarly and submarine base of Keroman at Lorient, reachable by ferry.

History

The Blavet estuary was fortified by Vauban from 1696 at Port-Louis opposite, and became the main French submarine base on the Atlantic during the German occupation of 1940 to 1945.
