Guide
Approach and anchoring
Enter the broad Sassafras mouth from the Chesapeake and follow the marked channel upriver. The river narrows to under half a mile within three miles, with high wooded banks. Watch the channel markers around Ordinary Point, where they can mislead. Deepest water lies near mid-river.
Practical
Mud bottom with good holding. Sheltered from west through south-east winds, open to the north. Skipjack Cove Marina and Duffy Creek Marina lie 4.1 nm to the east at Georgetown for fuel, transient berths and repairs.
