Guide

Approach and anchoring

Approach from Bass Harbor Bar or Eastern Way between Greenings Island and Manset. Sheltered from prevailing westerlies. Town moorings are available since anchoring inside the crowded harbour is not allowed. VHF channel 9.

Practical

Around 150 floating concrete berths for yachts from 30 to 180 feet. Marine diesel and ethanol-free petrol, 30, 50 and 100 amp shore power plus three-phase, fresh water at every berth, showers, laundry, free wifi. On-site West Marine chandlery, sail loft and bakery.

Ashore

Town centre with shops and restaurants at 10 minutes on foot. Hinckley Yacht yard at 0.7 nm SE. Acadia National Park trailheads accessible by road or shuttle, including Flying Mountain at around 4 km and Echo Lake freshwater swimming.

History

The site was converted into a marina in 1990 from a former working sardine cannery, one of many that lined the Maine coast through the twentieth century.
