Anchorage and mooring field at Lunt Harbor, Frenchboro, on Long Island in Blue Hill Bay, Maine, about 8 nm south of Mount Desert Island.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Lunt Harbor is well enclosed on most headings, with the most exposure when the wind comes in from the north or north-east. The bottom can be rocky in places, so the anchor may take a few attempts to set. A dozen or so visitor mooring buoys lie to starboard on entering.
Practical
To take a mooring, go alongside Lunt's dock and scan the QR code in the window to pay the 50 dollar fee. The village clusters around its working lobster harbour.
Ashore
The Maine Coast Heritage Trust holds conservation land covering much of Long Island, with marked trails leading from the village to the shore and through spruce forest. Frenchboro keeps a small museum and a seasonal lunch counter by the harbour.
