Guide
Approach and anchoring
A privately dredged channel with a controlling depth of about 4 feet leads in from Cotuit Anchorage, then a winding channel of around 6 feet curves between Sampsons Island and Bluff Point into the bay. Sand and mud bottom. Sheltered from the north-west through east, open to the south-west.
Practical
A town wharf with about 5 feet at its face and a small-craft launching ramp serve the village. Squeteague Harbor Marine lies 8.3 miles to the west and Falmouth Town Marina 8.9 miles to the south-west.
Ashore
The village shops are close to the town wharf. Cotuit oysters have been farmed here since the Cotuit Oyster Company was founded in 1837, and the company still cultivates them on the bay.
History
Cotuit is one of the seven villages of the town of Barnstable. Its oyster grounds have been worked commercially since the first half of the nineteenth century.
