Small tidal harbour in the Baie de l'Aiguillon, on the channel leading from the Pertuis Breton to Marans in Charente-Maritime.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach through the buoyed channel of the Baie de l'Aiguillon, accessible around high water only. The bay dries extensively at low water and the mud banks on either side of the channel are soft. Night entry is not advised. The Port du Pavé lies 1.4 nautical miles to the south-west along the same channel.
Practical
Basic mooring facilities, limited pontoon space mainly used by local fishing and oyster boats. No fuel on site. Water on the quay. Marans village, which offers shops and provisioning, lies 4.4 nautical miles east up the Canal de Marans à La Rochelle.
Ashore
Dyke path along the Baie de l'Aiguillon, part of the Marais Poitevin regional nature park, gives long walks over reclaimed polders. Bird observatory at the Pointe de l'Aiguillon about 4 km west. Marans town centre with market hall, Saint-Étienne church and canal locks sits 7 km inland by road.
