Guide
Approach and anchoring
Reached from the Baie de l'Aiguillon through the canalised Sèvre Niortaise. The canal is tide-restricted at its seaward end with a lock at Le Brault that opens around high water. A second lock at Marans itself gives access to the basin. Fixed bridges limit air draught on the final approach.
Practical
Visitor berths along the town quay with water and electricity. Sanitary block. Small and medium shops, bakery and supermarket within the town, all within 500 m of the quay.
Ashore
Marais Poitevin wetlands start immediately west of the town, with hire of flat-bottomed punts on the Sèvre. Towpath for walking and cycling along the canal toward Damvix and Coulon.
