Approach and anchoring
Approach via the Pertuis Breton and the buoyed channel serving the Sèvre Niortaise. Mud bottom with good holding for shallow draught. Large tidal range and extensive drying banks, check height of tide carefully. Open to winds from NW through SE.
Practical
Suitable mainly for shoal draught and bilge keelers. Port du Pavé at Charron 1.2 NM SW gives a drying berth, and the Corps de Garde anchorage lies 0.5 NM E.
Ashore
Charron is a mussel farming village of around 2 000 inhabitants. Bouchot mussels and local oysters sold direct from producers along the quayside. Bakery and small shops in the village centre.
