Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the E via the Pertuis Breton, watching for shifting sandbanks off the spit. Mud bottom, variable holding after gales reshape the banks. Strong ebb current out of the Lay. Shelter from NW, W, SW and S winds. Open to NE through E.
Practical
Forain anchoring, no facilities. La Faute-sur-Mer lies 2.4 NM NW and Port de L'Aiguillon 3 NM NW at the bottom of the estuary for shelter and supplies.
Ashore
The Pointe d'Arçay forms a National Hunting and Wildlife Reserve of 210 hectares, closed to the public on the spit itself. Major wintering site for brent geese and waders on the Aiguillon bay mudflats.
