Anchorage off the Claremont Hotel in Southwest Harbor, on the west side of Mount Desert Island, Maine.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Open to the west, south-west and south, so best used in settled or northerly weather. The bottom is rocky, with uneven holding, and a trip line on the anchor is sensible. Dyer Bay South Harbor lies 0.6 nm to the south-west and Hinckley Marina 0.7 nm to the south, both able to assist if the wind backs into the harbour.
Ashore
The Hinckley boatyard, builder of the Bermuda 40 and Picnic Boat, is a short tender ride south. Southwest Harbor village has shops and provisions, and the trailheads of Acadia National Park lie within a few miles of the waterfront.
History
The Claremont Hotel was built in 1883 and opened the following year, drawing summer visitors from New York and New England. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
