Shallow anchorage on the west shore of Arcachon Bay, off the village of Claouey at the northern end of the Cap Ferret peninsula.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the main channel of the bay at high water. Sand bottom with patches of oyster tables nearby, so keep clear of the marked parks. Protection from NW and W winds behind the peninsula, open to the E across the bay. The area dries in places at low water, so pick a spot with enough depth for your draught.
Practical
Anchor off the Club Nautique de Claouey at about 0.2 NM SW. No pontoon for visitors, use the dinghy to go ashore. Small shops, a bakery and a couple of restaurants in the village. Andernos-les-Bains oyster port is 2.8 NM E across the bay.
Ashore
Cycle path along the west shore of the bay, part of the Vélodyssée route, runs past the village. Sandy beach at Plage du Truc Vert on the ocean side of the peninsula, about 3 km by road. Oyster shacks on the waterfront sell local Arcachon oysters direct.
