Guide
Approach and anchoring
Shallow sandy basin criss-crossed by tidal channels that shift every few years. Navigate on a rising tide and follow the marked chenaux. Sheltered from NW through SW, exposed to easterlies that push a short chop across the basin. Strong tidal streams on the ebb, up to 3 knots in the main channels.
Practical
Forain anchorage on sand, holding good. Club Nautique de Claouey 0.5 NM south for dinghy landing. Oyster port of Andernos-les-Bains 2.8 NM east for fresh supply and a market.
Ashore
Claouey village 400 m from the beach for bakery and small grocery. Piste cyclable du Bassin runs the length of the peninsula to Cap Ferret lighthouse 13 km south. Oyster huts along the Conche du Mimbeau for tasting on the half-shell.
