Approach and anchoring

Approach from the north-west across the Pertuis, keeping clear of the oyster parks marked on the chart between Châtelaillon and the Île d'Aix. Shallow flats inshore, check the tide for the last approach. No buoyed channel, eyeball navigation.

Practical

Around 92 moorings. Sand bottom, moderate holding. Shelter from N, NE and E, exposed to the SW where the fetch across the Pertuis builds quickly. Water tap on the beach esplanade. No fuel, no yard. La Rochelle Les Minimes marina 6 NM to the north-west for full services.

Ashore

Long sandy beach runs the full length of the seafront, lifeguarded in summer. Shops and restaurants along Boulevard de la Mer within 200 m of the landing. TER train station on the La Rochelle to Rochefort line, 1 km inland, direct connection to the regional network.

History

Châtelaillon was the seat of a medieval viscounty that rivalled La Rochelle in the 11th and 12th centuries. The old castle and town were swept away by coastal erosion and sea attacks by the 14th century, and the current resort grew on the dunes from the late 19th century.
