Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the north in clear water. 31 mooring buoys on sand, sheltered from NW through S to SE, open to the north and north-east. VHF 8 for the buoy operator. The commercial port of Calvi lies 0.3 NM to the NW if shelter is needed.
Practical
Water available from the buoy service. Port Eugène Ceccaldi at 3.8 NM to the NE offers a full marina with fuel and technical services.
Ashore
Citadel of Calvi built by the Republic of Genoa from 1453, overlooking the bay from its rock promontory. Town beach runs 4 km to the east from the port. GR 20 long-distance trail starts from Calenzana, 7 km inland from Calvi.
History
Calvi was held by Genoa for more than three centuries until the French takeover of Corsica in 1768. The town was bombarded in 1794 during the siege by British forces, and Horatio Nelson lost the sight of his right eye during that action.
