Guide
Approach and anchoring
The basin is reached through a narrow cut on its north side. Boats may tie alongside the bulkhead, which has cleats; anchoring within the harbour is not permitted. The sand bottom outside gives shelter from N, NW, W and SW. There are no showers, sinks or drinking water on the key.
Ashore
An ornamental 65 ft lighthouse stands at the harbour entrance. A short loop trail crosses the key, with a picnic area and a basic campground. Boca Chita is the most visited island in the park.
History
The lighthouse was built in 1938 by industrialist Mark C. Honeywell, who owned the island and used the tower as a landmark for his operations. The key is listed as the Boca Chita Key Historic District.
