Guide

Approach and anchoring

Sand bottom with good shelter. Minimum depth is about 1.2 metres at the channel entrance, and the inner creek is not fully charted, so feel your way in. The anchorage is reached from Caesar Creek through Hurricane Creek into the lagoon.

Practical

No facilities. Elliott Key Harbor lies about 4.1 miles NE and Ocean Reef Club about 5.6 miles SW. Adams Key, with a launch point for kayaks, is close by.

Ashore

The whole area sits within Biscayne National Park. Elliott Key has a ranger station, campground and a short trail. Shallow water around the creek suits kayaking and paddling among the mangroves.

History

In the 18th century Elliott Key was a reputed base for two pirates both known as Black Caesar, and the creek between Elliott and Old Rhodes Key carries that name. Porgy Key, nearby, was farmed for decades by the Jones family before the park was established.
