Port of 240 berths in the estuary of the Goyen, on the south coast of the Cap Sizun, in Finistère.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Entry from the baie d'Audierne between the Pointe de Lervily to the north and the Pointe de Penharn to the south. Marked channel crossing a bar that shoals to 1.5 m at low water springs. Maximum draught 2.99 m in the basin. Avoid entry with strong SW swell, which breaks on the bar. Raz de Sein 8 NM to the west requires careful tide planning for onward passage. VHF channel 9.
Practical
240 berths split between the inner marina at Sainte-Évette and the Goyen basin. Fuel berth with diesel and petrol. Water and electricity on the pontoons. Shops, bakery and a large Super U within 500 m.
Ashore
Plage de Trescadec and the sentier des douaniers GR 34 start from the harbour and follow the coast west towards the Pointe du Raz at 12 km. Aquashow marine aquarium 400 m from the port. Market every Saturday morning on the quai Camille Pelletan.
History
Audierne was one of the main sardine and tuna ports of Brittany from the 19th century, with up to 14 canneries active before 1914. The last cannery, Courtin, still operates on the quayside.
Story
The Raz de Sein, 8 NM west of the harbour entrance, carries currents of up to 7 knots at springs and is one of the three passages traditionally ranked as the most demanding on the Atlantic coast of France.
