Guide
Approach and anchoring
Shallow anchorage that dries partly at low water of spring tides. Follow the buoyed channels of the Bassin and time arrival on a rising tide. Exposed to W and SW winds which raise a short chop across the basin.
Practical
Port du Bétey 0.2 NM east is a drying tidal port with water and a slipway. Oyster port of Andernos 0.7 NM to the north-west for landing by tender.
Ashore
Andernos pier is the longest in the Bassin d'Arcachon at 232 metres. Roman basilica ruins from the 5th century next to the church of Saint-Éloi, a listed archaeological site. Market Tuesday and Friday morning on place du Marché.
History
Andernos-les-Bains developed as a seaside resort from the 1860s once the railway from Bordeaux reached the Bassin. The pier was rebuilt several times after storm damage, the current structure dating from 1991.
