Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach by day. The bottom is broad sand with good holding once clear of the posidonia and the isolated rocks near the shore; anchor in 3 to 8 metres, and it stays deep close in to the beach. Sheltered from NW, N, NE and E. Open to the west as well as the south and south-west, so it rolls when a westerly swell runs and the libeccio makes it untenable, though the wind often falls away under the land overnight. Phone signal is patchy.
Ashore
The bay is part of the Domaine de Murtoli, a 2500-hectare private estate along the Ortolo valley with restaurants and a golf course open to outside visitors on reservation. The wreck of a Vickers Viking airliner lost in 1959 lies at the northern end of the bay in about 12 metres, a spot for snorkelling and diving. Roccapina beach and the Lion rock, a granite formation shaped like a crouching lion, lie 2 nm south-east.
