Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach in settled weather. Fine sand bottom with good holding, but the cove is small and takes only three to five boats. Rocks and shoal water lie off both sides of the entrance, clear to see in the transparent water yet to be given a wide berth. It shelves fast, so a 2 metre draught can touch near the beach and should sound in with care. Sheltered behind the beach in light airs but open to swell from seaward at night, and a westerly over about 15 knots raises a steep sea quickly, so treat it as a fair weather anchorage. Tizzano lies 2.3 NM to the NW as the closest refuge, Pianottoli-Caldarello 8.6 NM to the east.
Practical
No services on the beach. Tizzano village has a small harbour, restaurants and a basic shop. No reliable mobile coverage on parts of this coast. Water and fuel only at Propriano or Bonifacio.
Ashore
The Sentier du littoral de Campomoro à Tizzano, a 19 km waymarked coastal path, passes behind the beach, linking granite coves and Genoese watchtowers. The Casteddu d'Araggiu bronze age site and the megaliths of Cauria and Palaggiu, some of the largest alignments in Corsica, lie inland within 10 km.
History
The Corsican west coast was lined with Genoese watchtowers from the 16th century to warn against Barbary raids. The Tour de Campomoro, 7 NM to the NW, is the largest surviving example.
