Guide
Approach and anchoring
Enter the bay from the W between Punta di Campomoru to the N and the headland of Tizzano to the S. The harbour is very shallow, about 1 metre at the entrance, so keelboats cannot go in and anchor outside in front of the fishing jetty on sand in 5 to 7 metres, behind the yellow buoys; the best sand is inside the marked channel, but do not swing across it. Rocks lie off the west side of the entrance, and the sand is mixed with shingle and round boulders that can snag the chain. Shelter from NW, N, NE and E, open to W and SW swell, which breaks heavily on the approach and eases once past the small rocky headland to the west.
Practical
Water and rubbish bins on the quay, no fuel and no electricity. A dive school works from the inside of the harbour wall. Provisioning is thin and unreliable, as the small grocery may be shut, so do not count on stocking up here. Propriano 8.5 NM N for full marina services.
Ashore
The restaurants Aria Nova and Chez Antoine sit on the waterfront, both reached by tender. The Genoese tower on the headland, 16th century, is a short walk from the harbour. The menhir alignment of Paddaghju lies about 5 km on foot from the north end of the village, mostly off road with little shade. Plage de Tralicetu about 2 km S by coastal path. Sartène, the most Corsican of Corsican towns according to Prosper Merimee, at 18 km by road.
History
Tizzano was a Genoese lookout post against Barbary raids. The watchtower dates from 1570 and is part of the coastal defensive network built along the Corsican shores.
