Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the south on a clear bearing. Holding is mixed on sand and Posidonia and the sand patches are scarce, so choose the drop with care. Yellow buoys mark a zone off the beach: boats under 20 m may anchor inside the first line, larger yachts keep outside, and motoring is banned close inshore. The bay is exposed to southerly and easterly swell and busy with powerboat wake by day. Shelter from NW through N to W under the cliffs rising towards the Grande Corniche.
Practical
No services at the anchorage. Port de Silva Maris at Cap d'Ail is 0.4 nm SW and Port de Beaulieu-sur-Mer 1.1 nm SW, both offering fuel, water and visitor berths.
Ashore
Land the dinghy through the channel in the middle of the beach; the shore restaurant Anjula is close by. The Nietzsche footpath climbs from Èze-bord-de-Mer station to the medieval village at 429 m, a steep 2.5 km of about an hour, with the Jardin exotique at the top. Bus 83 runs from the stop by the station up to the village; carry cash or a Nice Azur card. Villa Kérylos in Beaulieu is 1.5 km by the coast road.
History
The village of Èze above the bay is documented from the 11th century as a Genoese stronghold. Friedrich Nietzsche wrote part of Thus Spoke Zarathustra while staying in Èze in 1883, and the footpath leading up from the shore now carries his name.
